ABOUT TAMMY
In 2007, Tammy was SA Election Campaign Committee Convenor and she has twice been State Convenor of the SA Greens (2008-2009).

In brief

  • Tammy is 41 years old, a feminist and a passionate advocate for human rights and social justice. She is married to Andrew and they live in Magill with their young daughter Millicent and middle-aged dog Bootsy. She also has two adult children from her previous marriage.

  • Born in Dubbo, NSW she has lived in South Australia for over 20 years. She moved to Parafield Gardens in the late 1980s after growing up largely in Sydney. Public school educated she attended school in Nyngan, Ballina, Coogee, Maroubra (all NSW) and Parafield Gardens (SA).

  • Tammy is currently a Policy Officer for the Mental Health Coalition of South Australia (on leave), the non government community peak body for the community mental health sector. She is committed to reducing the stigma of mental illness.

  • Prior to this, Tammy did a short stint in campaigns consultancy where she was able to work on a range of eclectic projects – with a highlight being touring a Japanese Rockabilly band (IKOCHI) with a transgender lead singer across Australia. Her working life has been largely in the non government sector, including work for human rights and social justice organisations such as Amnesty International and the YWCA.

  • At University she became heavily involved in student media and student activism, campaigning against the closure of her (Salisbury) Campus at UniSA and was elected State President of the National Union of Students (SA). Tammy’s first political job was Higher Education and Youth Advisor for Senator Natasha Stott Despoja in 1995. In 1999 Tammy was also seconded to work for the Yes Campaign for an Australian Republic in SA.

  • Tammy’s formative years were spent growing up in a single parent household living in a series of flats and then in housing commission estates. She is deeply committed to ensuring that no Australian need live in poverty and knows that adequate, accessible and affordable housing is essential to this.

  • She enjoys karaoke, reading, movies, art and music and supports both the Western Bulldogs (AFL) and Central Districts (SANFL) football teams, which is handy because the scarves are interchangeable!
